Written in January & February 2009

I’m trying to get out of this prison cell
I can’t stand the cold and I can’t take the smell
I’m biding my time ‘til the moment’s just right
I beat a man senseless without a fight

I’m trying to find my way out of a bind
I’ve got a woman outside of a decent kind
Waiting outside in a different kind of world
Trying real hard to be my girl

I couldn’t help but notice someone standing over
It’s a long time since I Lord, said a prayer
As the lights got lower and the voices faded out
There’s the making of a saint right there

Nothing in this world seems fair
Take it all away man I don’t care
I know I’ve only got myself to blame
It’s a false confession all the same

My head is right down and my nose is kept clean
The walls have ears and those ears are mean
On just one occasion I stepped out of line
But you can’t take more than a whole lifetime
